As part of their community clinical course work, three groups of UCQ students from the Bachelor of Nursing, Post-Diploma program partnered for the first time with Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) to develop community health care promotions in three PHCC health care centers. Tailored to each community location, the students delivered three promotions titled: Keep Children Safety, Promoting Self-Management in Diabetes Mellitus, and Live Healthier and Live Longer.
“The students work with the community for the community,” said Lona Taylor, a nursing instructor involved with the community clinical course. “This is a foundational principle of community health nursing practice.”
To round out their experience, the groups showcased their promotions to students, faculty, and staff on UCQ campus on the final day of classes of the winter term.
“The presentation aspect allows students an opportunity to share their promotions with the larger UCQ community,” added UCQ nursing instructor Anne Ballem.
The promotions were delivered in the Al Daayeen, Rawdat Al Khail, and Al Rayyan Health Care Centers operated by PHCC.
